week 3 Chapter 6

The concept that I chose for chapter 6 was dramaturgical perspectives because I felt that this concept was one that every individual could relate to. This concept is about people playing different roles depending on their surroundings and who they are with. People or "actors" perform daily. In whatever the situation is or who it's with people behave and act differently or a certain way to fit in in stand out. The six elements that the author lists: actor, audience, stage, script, performance, and audience are all great concepts that describe each person. For example, if a were to meet his/her boyfriend or girlfriend for the first time, they would probably act a certain way, talk a certain way, and behave a certain way in order to get the family to like him/her. So basically, if you had an outgoing loud personality and were meeting your partners' parents for the first time, you probably wouldn't act or behave in a certain manner where the family wouldn't approve.

Goofy, I agree with you on your perspective of dramaturgical perspective. I think that this is something that we all do, especially in a situation like meeting a boyfriends parents for the first time, or other important meetings. I also think it's interesting to watch people out of their ordinary settings, because in a way it can give you a glimpse into a persons personality that you never knew exhisted. Like watching a really silly and loud friend act professional, or see your quiet shy friend let loose.

Yea, the dramatical perspective is very prominent in our culture. People put on a view of themselves they want others to see when they first meet them. This is probably why so many relationships do not last very long. When people meet, they are attracted to the "actor" and the "performance." And then as they date and get to know each other, they find the true person is someone else completely. Sometimes this is when the relationship ends. Other times, learning about the true person behind the mask, so to say, can lead someone to realize this is the person they really want to be with.

Oh life, so mystical and unpredictable!
